In America you can find a vast variety of foods that are considered traditional, if you’re planning a trip to the United States in the future or you just simply want to learn a bit more about its culture, here we bring a small portion of which American dishes you should definitely.

Apple Pie

Is one of the most popular American dishes, is a very simple dish to make, you only need a buttery pastry, apple slices and lots of sugar. Apple pie is really the most traditional pie, even though you can find other varieties such as pecan pie or key lime pie, there are few dishes that are tastier and more delicious than the apple pie.

Deep Dish Pizza

The deep-dish pizza of Chicago is one of the most traditional dishes in America. It’s a very deep dough layer and then lots of tomato sauce and cheese are added. Different versions add toppings like sausage or pepperoni and mozzarella cheese or parmesan cheese over the crust.

New England Clam Chowder

One of my personal favorites, to be honest, you can find it in the New England region of the country such as in Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island. It’s made of quahog shellfish, herbs, cream, salted pork and potatoes and is a very popular dish in northeastern America. Is very common to add crackers to the chowder when serving it. It looks hideous, I acknowledge that, but believe me, just one small taste and you will fall in love.

Texas Barbecue

It’s a very popular American dish and is traditional in Texas for tailgates – barbecuing in the parking lot of an American football or soccer game-. They use mesquite wood to cook the meat, sometimes they use beef ribs or pork ribs as a variation depending on the region, but all over mesquite wood. In southern Texas they add a thick sauce to the meat, meanwhile in central Texas they don’t. this is probably the most traditional meal in the state of Texas.

Texas Barbecue

A hamburger consists on a blended meat or beef patty placed between two bread buns. Usually, hamburgers also have lettuce and/or tomato, and cheese on top of the meat, but you can also add any option you want, pickles, onions, bacon, ham, you name it. But is not uncommon to accompany the hamburger with a bunch of French fries.

Hominy Grits

Just like Clam Chowder is a part of American northeast culture, hominy grits are a part of United States’ southern culture. Hominy grits are made by milling and treating corn with alkali, to remove its hull. This dish is eaten with either bacon grease or butter, and you can add varieties such as shrimps or sausages. Almost every southerner love eating grits.

Thanksgiving Dinner

I know is not technically A dish, but this is one of the things I’ve found to be one of the most American things I’ve experienced every fourth Thursday of each November. Is turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, bellyaches and green bean casserole, and they all make a more than enjoyable feast to share with family and friends
