The American Chocolate Dream

A bite of good chocolate can brighten even the darkest day, and a piece of soft chocolate cake can make the whole week better! Americans are leaders in the field of sweet and comfort desserts. Donuts, cookies, and cheesecakes are world-famous desserts. But a good chocolate brownie cake is also a flagman of the true American cuisine. So, we suggest you prepare a great dessert that will fill the house with the delicious smell of chocolate and heal any sadness in your heart.

A Little Bit of History

History tells us that this dessert was first baked in the 19th century Chicago at the Palmer House Hotel when its hostess asked the chef to create a dessert specifically for women. The new dessert should be smaller than a piece of cake, but it must be just perfect. This first brownie was covered in apricot glaze and sprinkled with walnuts. The same brownie is baked today at this famous hotel Chicago.

Of course, there is another story of the origin of this chocolate dessert. Once, a housewife in Maine baked a chocolate cake but forgot to add baking powder. The cake did not rise enough, but the smart woman found a solution from the situation: she cut the cake into squares and served it. The first brownie recipes were printed in the early 20th century, but over the years, more than a few dozen variations of this chocolate dessert have appeared. Today you can taste original brownie or a version with cream cheese, peanut butter, nuts, caramel, coffee, or even fruits and berries.

The uniqueness of this chocolate dessert lays in the consistency. Unlike many cakes, this cake is exceptionally moist. Therefore, when baking brownie at home, do not forget the oven and watch the dessert: even one minute could make a difference.

Ingredients: 150 g of flour; ½ a teaspoon of salt; ¾ a teaspoon of baking powder; 180 g of dark chocolate; 175 g butter; 450 g sugar; 4 large or 5 small eggs; 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract; 100 g of dark chocolate (optional); 120 g of your favorite nuts (optional).

Preheat the oven to 160 ° C. Line a baking dish (30 x 20 cm) with baking paper. If you use nuts, spread them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Bake in a preheated oven for about 5-8 minutes, remove the nuts and set aside to cool. In a bowl, mix the flour, salt and baking powder. Melt the chocolate and butter in a steam bath, stirring constantly. Heat this mass until the chocolate and butter have melted and turn into a beautiful, solid mass.

Transfer the chocolate and butter mass to a larger bowl. Add sugar and whisk it. Then beat the eggs one at a time, beating the mass well after each one. Add the vanilla extract. Finally, add the flour mixture to the bowl. Pour the prepared dough into a baking dish lined with baking paper and spread it as evenly as possible. Bake in a preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes. After removing the cake from the oven, cool to room temperature. Cut the cake into squares, sprinkle with cocoa or sugar powder.
